Necrocannibal

The only release by the Moscow death metal band Necrocannibal has finally been issued in a proper form. Thanks to the enthusiasts behind the radio program Isolation, valuable archives were unearthed, old tapes were digitized, and now we have before us the very release with which the band shook the Russian underground scene in the mid-1990s. Of course, it is important to understand that back then young heavy metal bands had completely different recording возможностей than established giants, and that level of brutality was clearly more restrained compared to some of today’s extreme works. Even so, Necrocannibal’s efforts proved worthy and genuinely solid in quality. Somnambuliformic Possession is a very strong release that will surely appeal to collector-audiophiles, fans of truly old-school death metal, and those who supported Necrocannibal by attending their concerts back in the mid-1990s. Even the artwork is done in the spirit of those years: mirrored printing on the disc, minimalism, a black background, and live photos in the booklet. Exactly as it should be. It is gratifying to know that this part of Russia’s extreme music heritage has not vanished into eternal oblivion.
