Originally formed in the mid-to-late ‘90s post-grunge boom, Nataz traced its roots to the suburbs of Burlington, Ontario, where a group of high-school friends decided to start a three-piece. Guitarist Victor Lanza, bassist Dave Fernandez, and drummer Eric Taylor laid the groundwork. Soon after, they were joined by Erik Raymond — a former drummer and a writer for Tracker Music — who took over as the frontman.
What you had were four teenagers making raw, anger-driven music for anyone willing to listen. They cut their teeth playing local gigs and, over time, built a loyal following among nu-metal and hardcore fans in the region. In 1999, they released their debut album, Lost, which laid bare their harsh, unfiltered, and at times immature sound — aggressive, unpolished, and unapologetically youthful.
Though the band no longer exists as a unit, their influence has not faded completely. Traces of their energy and attitude have reached listeners beyond their local scene. For a brief moment at the turn of the millennium, Nataz captured something real: messy, loud, and honest.
