Unloco

Formed in 2000, Unloco quickly gained attention as an emerging nu-metal force fronted by vocalist Joey Duenas. The band made their initial mark with the six-track EP "Useless," issued via Captiva Records. This early release showcased a compelling blend of heavy riffs, melodic elements, and emotional intensity that resonated with the musical landscape of the time. Their promising start led to a significant milestone when they secured a deal with Madonna's Maverick Records. On March 20, 2001, Unloco released their debut full-length album "Healing," produced by Johnny K. The record established the band as a serious contender in the metal scene, featuring aggressive guitar work, a dark atmospheric tone, and a refined yet passionate sound that distinguished them from their contemporaries in the crowded early-2000s heavy music market. Many believed the group had the potential to achieve major success. The band later experienced roster changes when guitarist Brian Arthur departed to join Goldfinger, with Marc Serrano taking his place. In 2003, Unloco returned with their sophomore album "Becoming I," produced by Andrew Murdock, whose credits included work with Powerman 5000, Godsmack, and Chimaira. This album marked an evolution toward a more precise and polished sonic direction. That same year proved pivotal for the band as they toured with Korn on the Music as a Weapon II circuit and performed at Ozzfest 2003. Despite these high-profile opportunities, "Becoming I" did not meet the commercial expectations set by their label, leading Maverick Records to drop the band. Unloco disbanded shortly thereafter. Though their career was brief, they left behind a concise yet impactful discography that continues to attract fans of early-era nu-metal.
