Element Eighty is an alternative metal band from Texas that emerged in 2000 and quickly made an impact with its heavy, groove-driven sound. The group released its debut album Mercuric in 2001, followed by the self-titled Element Eighty in 2003 through Universal/Republic Records. That record became the band’s breakthrough, especially after “Broken Promises” appeared on the soundtrack to Need for Speed: Underground, introducing Element Eighty to a much wider audience. Around that time, the band also toured with acts such as Sevendust, Ill Niño, Flaw, 40 Below Summer, and Mushroomhead.

After parting ways with the label and going through a lineup change, Element Eighty returned with The Bear in 2005 on its own Texas Cries Records. Although the band later went through a breakup and a long period of silence, it eventually resurfaced and proved its staying power with A.D. in 2023. Taken together, Mercuric, Element Eighty, The Bear, and A.D. show the evolution of a band that never lost its identity: heavy riffs, strong hooks, and a sound firmly rooted in the best traditions of American alternative metal.
